How do I access contract specifications in MT4 and MT5?

Open the current Specification for any instrument in MT4 or MT5 and understand symbol scope, contract size, volume, price increment, hours, margin, swap, and trading status.

A Specification applies to the complete visible symbol on the relevant trading account. For an exact value, first confirm MT4 or MT5, then use the full symbol including any suffix.

Webtrader and FXT App are access surfaces for MT4 or MT5 accounts, not separate specification platforms. Their navigation can differ from the desktop platform.

In MT4 Platform:

  1. Open your MT4 platform and locate the "Market Watch" panel (typically on the left side)

  2. Right-click on your desired instrument

  3. Select "Specification" from the dropdown menu

  4. A new window will open displaying all contract specifications for the complete visible symbol

Quick Tip: To view specifications for all available symbols at once, press the keyboard shortcut CTRL + U, or right-click on "Market Watch" and select "Symbols" from the menu.

In MT5 Platform:

  1. Open your MT5 platform and find the "Market Watch" window

  2. Right-click on the instrument you want to check

  3. Choose "Specification" from the context menu

  4. Review the detailed contract specifications in the window that appears

Understanding these specifications is crucial as they provide important information about:

  • Contract size

  • Minimum price fluctuation

  • Trading hours

  • Margin requirements

  • Swap rates

  • Trading fees

What do the main fields mean?

  • Contract size is the quantity represented by one lot; it is not the required margin.

  • Minimum volume, volume step, and maximum volume are the smallest permitted size, permitted increment, and largest permitted size for the current symbol and scope.

  • Minimum price fluctuation is the smallest quoted-price move; it is not automatically a monetary pip or tick value.

  • Swap Long, Swap Short, and any multi-day swap day or factor can differ by trade direction and instrument; one day does not apply to every instrument.

  • Trading sessions use the displayed server time and can change for holidays, maintenance, or market adjustments.

  • Margin or leverage requirements, fees, maximum volume, trading status, and whether new positions can be opened can change.

Which source should I use?

The current Specification and account controls are authoritative. They override general examples, older articles, and dated exports. Field names may vary by platform version and display language.
